Hawaii Vacations

I’m going to Hawaii in January and I want to know the best things to do there so I get the best possible experience!
We’re only going to Maui and Oahu, so please only things to do on those islands.
So far, I’ve got:
1. Surfing Lessons
2. Dolphin Encounter
3. Submarine Tour
4. Scuba Diving
5. Zipline
Any other suggestions? If you find a good site with activities, that would be helpful too

Oahu:
- Scuba diving. Ask a local shop if they offer a "Discover SCUBA" package if not already certified.
- Watching surf competitions on North Shore. Winter surf on NS is best. Check out Waimea Bay and surrounding area but follow safety recommendations.
- Shop International District near Waikiki
- Paradise Cove luau
- Golf at Turtle Bay (if you’re into that kind of thing)
- Sightsee highways (but be mindful of your driving)
- Evening dinner @ Jameson’s By the Sea in Haleiwa (reservations req’d)
- Arizona Memorial (must see)
- Snorkel @ Hanauma Bay (must)
- Aloha bowl stadium flea market (must)
- Parasail
- Whale watching cruise that goes by the AZ memorial
- Stairway to Heaven/Haiku Trail (it’s a workout)

Maui:
- Bike tour down from the volcano
- Scuba Molokini (certified only)
- Shop for opals
- Bum around Lahaina
- Dinner cruise

**I really really recommend the "Discover (enter island name here)" books by Wizard Publications. You can’t beat the recommendations there. I traveled every island in the 5 years there and these books were the best reference – hands down.

Other recommendations: Rent a car for at least a day or two and drive to the best spots, beware of the tourist traps, shop around for deals, don’t leave ANYTHING in your car. Places away from the Waikiki area are better to visit and less expensive.

I think the Yanks have done some good ones, but we Brits still out did ‘em…. Mine would be,

Cracker (UK version’s far better) – with Robbie Coltrane
Dickson of Dock Green (Sgt Dickson)

You have got to have Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt opposite sides of the same coin Sam the stereotypical modern high ranked C.I.D officer working with a high ranking C.I.D officer from the seventies doing things ‘his way’ but both getting the results how about
John Thaw as Detective Inspector Jack Regan and Dennis Waterman as Detective Sergeant George Carter from the Sweeney remember when it was repeated in the early eighties and as a treat I could watch it sat on my dads knee and for my fifth choice for T.V cop could I have Captain Scarlet? could we consider him perhaps not a policeman in the true sense but he was a law enforcer of sorts, yep I am gonna have him so my five are
1/ Sam Tyler
2/ Gene Hunt
3/ Jack Regan
4/ George Carter
5/ Captain Scarlett
and if I can’t have Captain Scarlett I will have Jim ‘Bergerac’

I’m going on a vacation to Hawaii in 2 days but I haven’t even started to think about what to bring. Help me! I know the basics like shampoo and stuff but is there anything else? Thanks!

Money and credit cards. As many swimsuits as you have (so you have a fresh dry one to start with each day). Sunglasses, shorts, light weight tops. Flip-flops (but you have to call them "slippahs") and Teva-type shoes for hiking to waterfalls. Depends on what island and what activities you have lined up. (zip-lines and horseback riding require specific attire). If you’re going to Maui or the Big Island you’ll need warm clothes if you plan to head to higher elevations (it’s VERY cold…freezing even, on top of Haleakala or Mauna Kea). Bring a spare memory card with your camera and charger.

With airport security measures, it’s probably easier to just use the hotel shampoo unless you have specific needs. You can buy spray-on sunscreen, bug repellant, and most anything else you need once you’re here.

I know that all of the con candidates are opposed to any cuts in the Pentagon budget, but Obama thinks military brass shouldn’t be allowed to fly on private military jets to Florida or Hawaii so’s they can play golf. What’s the world coming to?

I hope so.

I live in Hawaii. I was wondering if there was a store that I could get a fish-eye lens camera from. Or would I have to get one of the SLRs and just buy the lens.
